Election Week Distractions:

5 Marketing related things to focus on this week that aren’t the election.

We are just one day away from one of the most talked about elections in history, and so you may be looking for some election distractions. Not just in the United States, but in the world. Between this presidential race and the CoVID-19 pandemic that has been the focal point of discussion for so much of 2020, it’s often easy to forget about everything else that’s happening.

As we go into this week with undoubtedly high anxiety, no matter which party we find ourself supporting, it’s important to remember that these distractions can’t steal all our attention and that as all marketers know; now is not the time to slow down!

In this post, I'll look at the top 5 election distractions to shift your thinking as we round out 2021. I hope that these will not only offer some distraction this week, but will help you stay on track for an excellent year-end.

Veteran’s Day:

Refuel Agency wrote a great article on how to create a Veteran’s Day advertisement that stands out. It’s both meaningful, and insightful! Since this will be the first National Holiday after the election, why not take some time now to think about how you’ll execute your campaigns?

Black Friday & Cyber Monday:

If your clients are planning to offer sales for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, now is the perfect time to put together your strategy. Things may be looking a little different this year for storefronts where Black Friday crowds were the previous norm. How can you adjust your marketing strategy to account for the craziness of 2020? Will Cyber Monday be much bigger this year than ever before?

Thanksgiving Break:

The break we’ve all been longing for! While this is the tastiest of election distractions on the list, that doesn’t mean it’s all Turkey and Naps! While many B2B businesses see a lull during late November through early January, the opposite is true for B2C. Take a look at the clients in your portfolio, and put together a unique strategy for each!

The December Holiday Season:

‘Tis the season for some Holiday shopping, and your clients will likely be preparing for an upswing in business. While you’re busy distracting yourself this week, why not check out some successful holiday campaigns from years past? John Lewis, a department store in the UK has had some highly memorable advertisements over the years which often go viral, for example.

Tank’s Good News:

Ah, my very favorite election distraction. If you’re really feeling the weight of this week, and need to catch a break from the usual headlines, look no further than Tank’s Good News. A site wholly dedicated to good news only, this is my personal favorite for mid-afternoon pick-me-ups. In light of the holiday season and spreading holiday cheer, why not head over there and share some stories with your friends! Be warned: happy tears may just be inevitable… Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

So, while you may be feeling some pressure going into this election, just remember that whatever happens there is much more going on in the world to think about. Take some time to breathe, and focus on what you can: executing top of the line marketing campaigns for your clients and scaling your agency to the best it can be.
